What Scanned PDF Support Handles

Scanned PDFs

Bank statements that were scanned from paper to PDF. The text isn't selectable because it's embedded as an image — our OCR reads it for you.

Photographed Statements

Took a photo of your paper statement with your phone? Save it as a PDF using a scanning app (Apple Notes, Adobe Scan, etc.) and upload it directly.

Image-Based PDFs

Some banks generate PDFs that look like regular documents but contain images instead of text. Our system detects this automatically and applies OCR.

How It Works

1

Upload

Upload your scanned bank statement PDF.

2

OCR Processing

Our system detects the scan and applies optical character recognition.

3

AI Extraction

AI parses the recognized text to extract structured transaction data.

4

Download

Preview your data and download as CSV or Excel.

Tips for Best Results

Do

  • Scan at 300 DPI or higher for clear text
  • Keep the document flat and well-lit when photographing
  • Use a scanning app that straightens the image automatically
  • Ensure all transaction rows are visible and uncut

Avoid

  • Blurry or low-resolution scans
  • Heavily skewed or rotated pages
  • Statements with heavy folds, stains, or pen marks over text
  • Cropped pages where transaction rows are cut off

Scanned PDF Conversion FAQ

A scanned PDF is created when a paper document is photographed or scanned. Unlike digital PDFs from online banking, scanned PDFs contain images of text rather than selectable text, which requires OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to extract data.

Our scanned PDF support works with PDF files that contain scanned images. For best results, scan your paper statement to PDF using a scanner or phone scanning app (like Apple Notes or Adobe Scan) before uploading.

Accuracy depends on scan quality. Clear, high-resolution scans typically achieve excellent results. We recommend scanning at 300 DPI or higher, ensuring the document is flat and well-lit, and avoiding skewed or blurry images.

Scanned PDF and OCR support requires AI credits, available on the Day Pass (20 credits), Pro ($39/mo, 200 credits), or Business ($79/mo, 1,000 credits). The Starter plan and free tier work with standard digital PDFs downloaded from your online banking portal.

You can preview a sample of the extracted data before unlocking the file. If the quality isn't satisfactory, try rescanning at a higher resolution with better lighting. Pro and Business subscribers can also use AI extraction for an additional accuracy boost on difficult scans.
